Couldn't agree more, not at all sure about this' taxpayer return' mantra - does it also apply to professional orchestras, theatres etc?
There is a much stronger argument for science communication that is rarely employed; most people are curious about the world we inhabit and deserve to know what little science has uncovered. I suspect that , far from being impressed with today's technology, Boyle or Newton would be horrified that a knowledge of basic science remains the preserve of a lucky few. How that happened is a strange facet of western education and it has serious implications for society, from arguments over wind farms to the threat of climate change - o science communication certainly has an important role to fill

Mid-air food photography: the indisputable mark of a professional chef blog. I challenge you to include mid-air food shots in all your posts from now on. Of course, more points are awarded for, say, mid-air jelly, than the cliché mid-air stir-fry-in-a-wok. Bonus points available if the food is slightly on fire.

The pouring-things-from-slightly-higher-than-anyone-does-in-real-life is a nice touch, too.

Mnn. Looks delish, think I'll try it this weekend.
Tried the brownies before and they came off well, tried the mix and it wasn't quite right: think I did more of a mix than a swirl with the topping and didn't let cool long enough.
I'll link to a pic if they're any good.
Yummy post.
